We hope this newsletter finds you in good health and high spirits. August has been an eventful month for us, and we are excited to share our latest activities and accomplishments with you.

1. Kisumu County National Youth Day/International Youth Day 2023 Launch

Our month kicked o ff with the vibrant Kisumu County National Youth Day/International Youth Day 2023 Launch on August 7, 2023. This event was a celebration of youth empowerment and their potential to shape our future. Held at the Rotary Vocational Training Center, it was a day filled with inspiring speeches, workshops, and networking opportunities. We were thrilled to see so many young faces eager to make a positive impact on our community.

On August 11th, we actively participated in the commemoration of International Youth Day at Sianda grounds. This day allowed us to showcase our unwavering commitment to the youth of Kisumu County and the world at large. It was an occasion to reflect on the challenges and opportunities that youth face and to highlight their crucial role in driving positive change.

As an organization, we took a leading role in enhancing the communication and visibility of Kisumu International Youth Day celebrations. Effective communication is essential in spreading awareness and mobilizing support for important causes. Our team worked tirelessly to ensure that the event reached a wide audience, both locally and globally.

2. USAID Western Kenya Sanitation Project Workshop

Another significant event in August was our participation in the USAID Western Kenya Sanitation Project workshop. This workshop focused on sanitation and Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) and also included a Business Development Youth Engagement event. Held at the Grand Royal Swiss Hotel in Kisumu, it was a crucial step towards promoting better hygiene practices in our community. Moreover, it provided valuable insights and resources to empower young entrepreneurs in the business world. Our team, Eunice, Sheila, Bright and Linda had an opportunity to be part of the training.

3. “SELF” Dialogue

Our organization hosted a powerful dialogue on “SELF” during the month. This event was more than just a discussion; it was an opportunity for attendees to delve into self-realization and identity awareness. We were honored to have incredible organizations such as Come Initiative, Better Me, Homeless of Kisumu, Jijenge Youth, and We Care

join us for this enlightening conversation. The discussions were thought-provoking, emphasizing the importance of understanding ourselves on a deeper level, which is often the first step towards personal and societal growth.

4. Climate Action Consultative Meeting

Eunice, the program coordinator actively participated in a vital consultative meeting on Climate Action alongside media houses and Kisumu County’s Climate Advocacy Team. This meeting, organized by SUSWATCH Kenya at Victoria Comfort Inn in Kisumu, allowed us to contribute our perspectives and insights to the critical discussion of climate advocacy and sustainable practices. Our commitment to environmental sustainability and climate action is unwavering, and we continue to seek ways to make a positive impact.

5. TEDxKisumu Countdown Event

Eagle Wings Organization had the honor of being part of the remarkable TEDxKisumu countdown event. With the theme “Innovating for Climate Conscious Cities,” this event sparked discussions on how we can drive positive change in our urban environments. Speakers from diverse fields, including gender, culture, AI, childhood development, psychology, and urban planning, shared their insights and innovative solutions. Together, we explored strategies that can lead to a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future.

 

7. Virtual Dialogue on Power Dynamics in Sexual Violence

One of our team members was engaged as a panelist during a virtual dialogue on the influence of power dynamics in sexual violence. This event addressed a critic

al and sensitive issue in our society. It provided a platform to discuss the complex factors that contribute to sexual violence and the ways we can collectively work towards creating a safer and more equitable society.
