UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls

Eagle Wings Organization stands in solidarity with advocates worldwide during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. Our commitment extends to joining forces with our partners in Kenya, specifically in Kisumu, as we actively participate in mobilizing efforts to commemorate the 16-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW).

This year’s 16 Days of Activism adopts the compelling theme: ‘UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls.’ This theme underscores the pervasive impact of violence against women and girls (VAWG), emphasizing its disruptive influence on peace and stability within families and communities. It also highlights the multidimensional costs borne by societies, spanning healthcare, education, social protection, justice, and productivity, hindering economies from realizing their full potential.

In alignment with this powerful theme, we emphasize the critical need for robust responses. These responses encompass allocating resources to ensure the full implementation of laws addressing gender-based violence (GBV) and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Strengthening victim-survivor support and protection services is paramount, as is guaranteeing that women and girls, encompassing all their diversities, have unfettered access to justice, including essential legal aid. We advocate for the creation of safe spaces within educational institutions and the integration of gender equality content into comprehensive sexuality education (CSE). By championing these measures, we strive to create an environment that not only prevents violence but actively promotes the well-being, dignity, and equality of women and girls. In joining the global call to action, Eagle Wings Organization asserts its unwavering commitment to being a catalyst for positive change in the collective pursuit of a world free from gender-based violence.

“In the symphony of change, our collective voices resonate louder than ever. Let us stand together as a united front, communities intertwined with governments, working towards empowerment, respect, and equality. Through dedicated action and investment, we strive towards prevention against gender-based violence, creating a world where the rights and dignity of every woman and girl are not just acknowledged but fiercely protected. Together, let us be the architects of a future where violence is replaced by compassion, fear by understanding, and inequality by unwavering unity,” Ambale Saraphina.

Call to Action

We call upon our local communities to actively participate in this collective effort. It is imperative for community members to raise awareness, engage in open dialogues, and support initiatives that foster a culture of respect and equality. By fostering a sense of unity, we can effectively combat gender-based violence at the grassroots level.

We urge the government to take decisive action. Allocating resources towards the implementation of comprehensive laws on GBV and SRHR is a critical step. It is essential to enhance victim-survivor support services, ensuring accessibility and effectiveness. We call on the government to prioritize the establishment of safe spaces in educational institutions and integrate gender equality content into CSE, thus contributing to the holistic development of our society.
