The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is a globally recognized campaign that takes place annually from November 25th (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to December 10th (Human Rights Day). This campaign highlights the urgent need to eliminate violence against women and girls, one of the most widespread human rights violations worldwide.
Despite decades of activism and progress, the numbers remain alarming:
- Every 10 minutes, a woman is intentionally killed by a partner or family member.
- 1 in 3 women globally has experienced physical, sexual, or emotional abuse in her lifetime.
These statistics remind us of the gravity of this crisis. Yet, gender-based violence (GBV) is not inevitable—it is preventable.
2024 Campaign Theme:
“Every 10 Minutes, a Woman is Killed. #NoExcuse. UNiTE to End Violence against Women under the framework: Towards 30 Years of the Beijing Declaration”
This year’s theme underscores the urgency of collaboration and accountability in combating GBV. It calls on governments, civil society, private sector organizations, faith-based groups, and individuals to work together to create sustainable change. By uniting across sectors, we can transform communities and establish zero tolerance for all forms of violence.
Our Commitment.
At Eagle Wings Organization, we are committed to contributing to this global movement through meaningful and impactful actions:
- Digital Campaigns
We will host online discussions to engage individuals from diverse backgrounds, providing a platform to share opinions, collaborate, and build alliances. These discussions will amplify voices, raise awareness, and highlight the role each of us plays in combating GBV. - Storytelling for Change
On Friday, November 29th and 6th December 2024 we will hold a Focused Group Discussion featuring survivor-centered stories. These stories will inspire action, foster empathy, and promote the exchange of strategies that can be adapted to tackle GBV effectively within our community.
