At Eagle Wings Organization (EWO) , we believe that every young person deserves the knowledge, skills, and resources to lead a healthy, fulfilling life. For years, we have worked at the grassroots level in Kisumu and beyond—empowering youth, uplifting women, promoting mental health, defending human rights, and building peace.

But we cannot do this alone. We need strong, ethical, and visionary leadership at the board level.

Eagle Wings Organization is now inviting qualified and committed individuals to express interest in joining our Board of Directors (referred to as the MC) , as outlined in our EWO Board Manual and Constitution.

Who We Are

Mission:
To empower young people with knowledge, skills, and resources to lead healthy, fulfilling lives, contribute to sustainable development, and achieve their full potential.

Our Focus Areas:

  • Social Sector: Youth & women empowerment, SRHR, mental health, career guidance, livelihoods, and bodily autonomy.
  • Governance Sector: Human rights, transparency, justice, leadership, peacebuilding, and legal reforms.

We are a registered CBO based in Kisumu, with a secretariat, a growing team, and a commitment to accountable governance.

Why Join the EWO Board?

This is not a ceremonial role. Board members are expected to actively guide strategy, oversee the secretariat, safeguard resources, and help steer the organization toward its mission.

Board positions open:
  • Chairperson
  • Vice Chairperson
  • Treasurer
  • Two (2) Board Members

Term: 2 years (renewable once for a maximum of two terms)

What We Are Looking For

As per the EWO Board Manual (Clause 3.2 and 5.0), board members must demonstrate a spread of skills including:

  • Leadership & Governance
  • Strategic Thinking & Management
  • Communications & Knowledge Management
  • Resource Mobilization
  • Legal Expertise
  • Financial Acumen (especially for Treasurer)
  • Creativity & Innovation
  • Stakeholder Relations

We also prioritize gender balance and equity in line with our constitution.

Eligibility Requirements (General for all Board Members)

All applicants must:

✔ Meet Chapter 6 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 (integrity, ethics)
✔ Have no history of financial fraud or mismanagement
✔ Not have been convicted of any immoral act or rights violation
✔ Not be from an organization blacklisted or suspended by EWO or development partners
✔ Be available to give necessary attention to EWO’s work

Specific Qualifications

Chairperson / Vice Chairperson:
  • Graduate/Postgraduate in Development Studies, Law, Education, or related field OR 10+ years’ experience in Democracy & Governance.

Treasurer:

  • Graduate/Postgraduate in Economics, Commerce, Accounting, Finance OR CPA-K / ACCA finalist with 3+ years’ CSO financial management experience.
  • Board Members:
  • Graduate/Postgraduate OR 2+ years’ experience in Democracy & Governance.

Board Commitment & Conduct

  • Attend quarterly board meetings (or special meetings as needed)
  • No sitting allowance, but meeting-related expenses (accommodation, transport) are reimbursed subject to fund availability
  • Sign a Conflict of Interest Policy and annual disclosure form
  • Uphold fiduciary duties, confidentiality, loyalty, and separation of personal/organizational assets

  • Expression of Interest Letter (clearly indicating which position you are applying for)
  • Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • One (1) recent passport-size photo

Next Steps

After review, shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview and induction. Successful appointees will be required to attend a handover meeting, a board induction training, and a staff/board retreat (subject to funds).

  • Strategic Plan
  • EWO Constitution & MoU
