In the pursuit of creating a world where every individual has access to age appropriate sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR), NairoBits Trust recently organized a knowledge-sharing forum as part of the Right Now Right Here program. This forum aimed to bring together young people and youth-led community-based organizations (CBOs) working on SRHR which Eagle Wings Org was part of. Over the course of two days, participants had the opportunity to showcase their work and explore new ways to advance the cause of SRHR.
The first day of the forum set the stage for collaboration and information exchange. Organizations involved in SRHR work had the chance to present their initiatives, shedding light on their experiences, challenges, and successes. This platform allowed participants to learn from each other, building a collective knowledge base to improve SRHR services.
One of the highlights of day 1 was the emphasis on identifying opportunities within SRHR. By discussing various projects and initiatives, participants gained insights into areas where collaboration could be more effective. The Right Now Right Here program’s focus on empowering young people to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health became evident through these discussions.
Day 2 , the training agenda shifted toward a practical exercise: Empathy Mapping. This exercise aimed to help participants delve deeper into understanding the needs, challenges, and aspirations of the individuals they serve within their communities. By empathizing with the target audience, organizations can better tailor their programs and initiatives to meet their specific needs.
Group discussions on this exercise were enlightening. Organizations shared their experiences in reaching out to their personas and assisting them in navigating the complexities of their community environments. Empathy mapping encouraged organizations to explore the feelings, thoughts, actions, pains, and gains experienced by those they work closely with, ultimately leading to more effective and empathetic SRHR interventions.
Some of the organizations present included: Eagle Wings Org, Jijenge Youth Org, Freedom in Healing, Compassion, Nyalenda Young Turks, Leaders 4 Leaders champions, United Destiny Shapers, Dream Girls, Eco Adventures , HEDSO, TINADA,and more.
As Eagle Wings Organization, we look forward to working closely with NairoBits Trust under our Kuza Nia and Dialogue Mtaani project with a focus on expanding and strengthening SRHR initiatives in Kisumu, ultimately benefiting the youth and communities they serve.
