Empowering Local Non-Profits for Gender and Health in East Africa
Eagle Wings is proud to be part of the LightUp Impact Community, a thriving hub of 100 early-stage, locally led non-profits, or grassroots organizations, dedicated to promoting gender and health initiatives across East Africa. This dynamic community provides invaluable support, fostering networking, trust-based partnerships, and skills development to enhance visibility and long-term sustainability.
The 2nd Annual Light Up Impact Days, held on September 11th and 12th, 2023, marked a significant milestone for the community. With the theme “Shift the Power – Igniting Change,” the conference brought together passionate individuals and organizations committed to driving transformative impact in the region co-hosted with the East African Philanthropy Network (EAPN).
Day 1: Shifting the Power to Grassroots Organizations
Day 1 of the conference was packed with enlightening panel discussions, offering deep insights into the strategies and approaches for shifting power to grassroots organizations.
The opening panel, “A System Change Approach to Shift the Power to Grassroots Organizations,” explored the why, how, and the way forward. This session encouraged attendees to consider innovative approaches for systemic change, emphasizing the pivotal role grassroots organizations play in the process.
Another noteworthy discussion, “SDGs and Government Relations: Empowering Youth to Influence Policy-Making and Political Participation,” underscored the importance of engaging the younger generation in shaping policies and promoting political participation. Empowering youth is not just a future investment but a present necessity.
The conference also delved into “Power Structures and Relations: Innovative Approaches for Gender Equality and Social Inclusion.” This conversation highlighted the need for creative solutions to break down gender barriers and promote social inclusivity.
Day 2: Networks and Philanthropy for Systemic Change
Day 2 was equally insightful, with a special focus on the impact of networks in philanthropy and systemic change. The panel discussion, “Impact of Networks in Philanthropy & Systems Change,” was particularly engaging. Moderated by Saraphina from Eagle Wings, this session explored how networks can be harnessed to drive positive change in the philanthropic landscape. It was a proud moment for Eagle Wings to take a leading role in shaping this crucial conversation.
Networking Sessions and Exhibitor Halls
Beyond the enriching panel discussions, the conference provided ample opportunities for networking. These sessions allowed attendees to connect, collaborate, and build trust-based partnerships. The exhibitor halls showcased the incredible work being done by grassroots organizations, highlighting their dedication to gender and health causes in East Africa.
